Watched & Read, November

I frequently get asked what I'm reading or watching, so I've decided to try a new series where I round up all the novels and movies I watched per month. This is the third month I'm trying out this series, I'm curious, do people like it? If so, let me know in the comments or shoot me a DM.

*Where to listen: I use the Libby App all the time which is free to everyone who has a library card. I also pay for Spotify and if you do you get 15 hours of an audiobook per month, so basically two shorter books or a book and a half.

*Where to read: I thrift a lot of my books, use the library a ton, download checked out Libby books to my kindle, and occasionally treat myself to a crisp new book from a book store as well.

*Where to watch: most everything I watch can be found on Hulu, Disney+, Prime, MAX, or Netflix.

November Faves

Watched:

  • Little Women: a repeat throughout the season… I’ve never actually read the book so I feel like that’s next up on my read list, but the movie is such a feel good movie. It hits in so many relevant ways, but also transports you while feeding you so much beautiful imagery. 10/10 recommend.

  • Come Away: I have no clue how I didn't know about this movie! It came out in 2020, but I only just found out about it. It sets the origin for Peter Pan x Alice in Wonderland by following two children trying to help their family through a hard time. I really liked it and recommend it!

  • The Holiday: a repeat throughout the season as well! A classic. My fave feel-good, my fave holiday movie.

  • Paddington: Kind of an old one, but it was new to me! It was super cute. A fun feel-good one.

  • My Old Ass: I texted my friend who recommended it to me this photo (embarrassing) and my review:

Read:

  • The Lost Apothecary, Sarah Penner - this one took me a little while to truly get invested in, but there is a clear turning point and it ultimately became a page turner for me (or so to speak if you listen to the audio version like I did).

  • Darling Girls, Sally Hepworth - Super intense and there are a lot of triggers so I recommend reading a synopsis before digging in if you've endured trauma. It was however, REALLY good. It made me listen intently up until the last few words.

  • The Castaways, Elin Hilderbrand - A classic EH! Was entertaining as always.

  • The Women, Kristin Hannah - This was my first KH novel! Loved her style of writing and will be reading more of her work. The Women was a wartime novel, with half of it set in war, and I'm usually not a fan of violence/in-war type of stories, however this one might be the exception. It made me understand things with a new perspective, opened my eyes to hidden truths, and was overall just really well written and engaging. I have so much respect for this book as it taught me new things while also keeping my interest super hooked. Lots of highlighting and a few tears. This was a page turner for me.

  • Weyward, Emilia Hart - Another intense one (TWings), but I enjoyed it! It tells the story of 3 generations of women all dealing with parallel situations and how they overcome/live through it. Alongside the intense bits, there is a real feeling of female empowerment and connection to nature.

Thats it for November! Check back at the end of December for new reccies and if you have any you'd like to share please drop them in the comments, thank you!
