The Coziest Lodge In Palm Springs

I recently went to Palm Springs for a wedding, however I went a day early to check out (or rather, check into) a lodge that had caught my eye when looking for places to stay for the wedding. It was definitely a splurge to stay there, but for one night it was so worth it. Let me transport you to Sparrows Lodge.

Upon arrival I was greeted with a fresh sangria (which was very welcomed after a 7 hour drive) and I was a tad early for check in so I changed into a suit and immediately jumped into the pool. After cooling off I wandered the grounds and took in all the design details. The lodge was created in 1952 as a hideaway/getaway for Hollywood elite and the preserved (and added) details really make you feel like you've escaped reality into a hidden gem in the desert. I can just imagine all the stars that used to sit around the pool drinking and laughing and sharing stories through the day into the night.

"Sparrows Lodge was first built as Castle's Red Barn in 1952 by MGM actor Don Castle and his wife Zetta, and served as one of the original Palm Springs resort getaways for the Hollywood Elite. Being less than 2 hours from Los Angeles, Palm. Springs was an approved destination for actors under contract with studios who weren't allowed to be more than 2 hours away from Hollywood. Legend has it that iconic actress Elizabeth Montgomery had her first marriage at the property. The Lodge has had a few incarnations, including most recently El Rancho Lodge. In 2014, Sparrows Lodge was restored to revive it's original authenticity and create a place of ease and simplicity. Our goal was to provide guests with an unpretentious, unique Palm Springs experience that embraces the charm of the property and its original structures. The result is a retreat that's simple and tasteful, where guests may seek privacy, or enjoy meeting others in a relaxed, communal environment. We welcome you to Sparrows Lodge and hope you enjoy your stay with us and your visit to Palm Springs."

Besides the gorgeous details of the lodge entry, barn dining area, the grounds, and of course the rooms, the FOOD was also top tier. The lodge restaurant has a Michelin Star and based on the chips and guac alone (although I also enjoyed a a full entrée as well) I understand how they earned it.

The beds were so comfy that I actually took off the corner of the sheets so that I could peek at the branding of the bed topper (which of course I've now forgotten). After dinner the provide s'mores ingredients for their fire pits, but I was so tired I hit the pillow wrapped up in one of their robes at 8:30pm and slept through the night.

I woke up around 5:50am (this is so not standard for me, I just felt rested and ready for the day from passing out early the night before) and was so happy to watch the moon set and the sun rise. The colors over the mountains were so breathtaking, I walked all over the grounds and couldnt stop snapping pics to try and capture how beautiful it was. I think I was the first person awake (besides the staff) and it felt really dreamy.

After wandering around for sunrise, I enjoyed a breakfast buffet and many cups of coffee along with a jump in the pool to fully wake up for the day (imagine waking up every day like that, that would be incredible). Check out was at noon (which felt luxurious as opposed to the standard 11am, it really gave you time to have a full morning at the hotel) and I was so sad to leave, but also felt so rested, full (of food and of joy lol), and happy.

During my stay they were burning sage at various points of time. Sage is not only a very spiritual plant, but also can help ward off bugs at night. Upon check out they asked if if I would like a bundle of sage (and matches if I wasnt flying, to which I happily accepted).

If you're ever in Palm Springs, I highly recommend checking out Sparrows Lodge, even if you just go for the afternoon or a meal! If you're able to splurge a nights stay (or a few) I think it's totally worth it as well. You'll be thinking about your time there for years to come!

Until next time.

xx,

Rose
